Public Library Vodcasting

Here’s another example of how libraries are using vodcasts. The Orange County Library System is using vodcasts to show clips from library programs and events such as author visits, booktalks, etc. This is a great way to show what is going on at the library and to entice area residents to attend upcoming events. Each event is posted as a podcast and as a vodcast. Since the vodcasts take some time to open I have attached an example of one here. This is a clip from a visit by author Rosalie Turner who spoke about Freedom Bound, her historical novel about Anna Kingsley, a slave who later became a slave owner herself.

Are any of the public libraries in your area doing anything like this? If so, please share some examples. If not, what kinds of vodcasts would you like to see from your local public library?

My public library does not offer any of their own vodcasts but I did find a link (http://www.tcpl.org/news/2008/04/skorton-program-available-for-web.html) to a Cornell University vodcast of the new CU President and his wife speaking at the public library.

I would love to see more of the libraries excellent programming made available via vodcast. There is an upcoming author visit I won't be able to go to that I would love (at least the idea of - time is still an issue) to be able to "experience" later. I get the feeling that our library is right on the brink of doing this - some of the site is looking pretty hip these days.

Mariah,
Thanks for the info on your local library. The libraries in my immediate area are not doing anything like this yet either, but then again I live in a very small rural area where the libraries may not see much use for this kind of technology application yet. Glad to hear that your library may at least be headed this way in the near future.
