Discovery Educator

The Digital Storytelling blog provided by the Discovery Educator Network is one of the few blogs I have found devoted completely to digital storytelling. New postings are added regularly to this blog and great information on K-12 video contests, digital storytelling conferences and festivals, as well as information on harware and software capabilities/updates are included here. One post from January 16th advertises a contest called "Video All-Star" in which K-12 students and teachers are encouraged to create a 2-3 minute video about why digital learning tools are so important to them and to their school. Prizes are given to the best entries including a new laptop and Adobe Digital School Collection software licenses for the school.

In examining this blog and the information provided in the various posts, is this something you would keep an eye on as a TL who is incorporating digital storytelling into your library activities? Would you find the information useful? Why or why not?

Absolutely. This is the type of thing I would love to bring with me to grade level team meetings and include in my library newsletter. The possibilities are great - I'm loving learning about all of these opportunities for students to take on cross curricular projects.

I'm committed to staying up on what's new and cool but I have to admit I worry that it won't be as easy when the ideas aren't coming from fellow students on a daily basis. I would love to stay connected to you all and the rest of our fellows so we can continue to share our great finds. Beyond that I will certainly keep up with the kidlitblogosphere, etc.

A request of Steve who I think is reading every one of our posts, would you post a 'best of'list of the blogs the class evaluated for our assignment?

If I were a TL incorporating digital storytelling into my library activities, I would definitely keep an eye on the Digital Storytelling blog you highlighted. It seems like a great "one stop shopping" for digital storytelling updates, etc. I could point skeptical administrators or teachers to this blog to give them an idea of some of what is going on in digital storytelling today. Also, I just think it would serve as a good resource for me!

Mariah,
I completely agree that we are at such an advantage now since we are constantly hearing and learning about great ideas and resources from our fellow students. It will be hard to keep such valuable contacts as we graduate and begin work in our respective schools. It's just one more reason that once we are TLs we will need to keep ourselves as open as possible to new contacts and new ideas.
